The Challenge
The Brief and The Reality
Bird & Bird – a city-based legal firm – had a reception area on the ground floor of a 12-storey building that was practically and visually failing. The existing hostess-style setup was impractical for the reception team and failed to reflect the firm’s professional values. The desk was not DDA compliant, had no hearing loop, no independent heating control, and no power or data connectivity for the team using it. Additional storage – consistent with desk designs across other floors – was also absent.
The Outcome
How 360DS Approached It Differently
360DS designed a new reception desk that made a strong visual statement without overwhelming the large lobby – creating a professional focal point that reflected the firm’s identity. DDA compliance was built into the design from the outset. A hearing loop, independent heating, and full power and data connectivity were all incorporated, transforming the desk into a fully functional hub for the reception team. Additional storage consistent with the wider building’s desk design was integrated throughout.
Client Outcomes
What Changed For Them
DDA compliance delivered.
The firm now meets its legal obligations at the primary point of public access - a compliance risk addressed and resolved.
Hearing loop installed.
Reception is now fully accessible to hearing-impaired visitors and clients - serving everyone who walks through the door.
Reception team properly equipped for the first time.
Full power, data, heating, and storage - the team can do their job properly rather than working around the limitations of the furniture.
Brand reflected at the first point of contact.
The desk communicates the firm's professionalism rather than contradicting it - first impressions now align with the firm's values.
