HORSE GUARDS, Grade I – Roof Repairs
Horse Guards is a Grade I listed building prominently positioned in the Whitehall area of
London. The current building dates from the mid 1800s and is predominantly build from
Portland Stone, with lead and slate roofs. Water ingress has started to become a significant
problem within the building; therefore a survey was required to review the condition of the roof
and coverings. Following the production of a condition report and recommendations, designs
where developed for the repair of large areas of the roof and stone work; this being developed
with historic methodologies and techniques. A review of the current roof access protection
was also carried out with recommendations forming part of the proposals.
