B13 REMEDIAL ROOF DESIGN
Situated on an MoD Estate secure location, B13 is ubiquitous 1960’s era building which
presented with a failing roof condition. Unfortunately, previous alterations to the buildings roof
slab edge precipitated a failing to the roof covering and ingress of water causing damage to
the interior of the building as well as significant rapid deterioration of the elevation. The
solution was to redesign the roof edge and roof covering to eliminate the water ingress. A full
design of repair works to the buildings fabric was provided. Careful environmental
considerations were undertaken as the building had been identified as highly likely to provide
roosting opportunities for bats. The project required planning permission which took into
account the environmental concerns as well as the impact of the design on the aesthetic of
the building given it is situated in a sensitive location.
